Sunia - Listening, deep Listening: Listening to what you hear when all the narratives of the mind finally fade away
By trusting what you hear when you Listen, the truth of your own inner consciousness will saturate their psyche with wisdom and understanding.
By trusting what you hear when you listen, you shall dwell in all the mansions of learning.
By trusting what you hear when you Listen, the blows of insults of others will not affect you
By trusting what you hear when you listen, death will have no power over you, such is that true spirt within you, which makes one sweet, pure and clear
By trusting what you hear when you Listen, you will always know what you see, how to understand, and how to act.
-Jai Dev Singh’s reading and translation of Guru Nanak’s, Jap-Ji (the Sunni-ai verses)
(other translation offered below)
I wanted to include another translation of the Sunni-ai in Guru Nanak’s Jap-Ji. Of course, no English translation is exactly the same. Direct translation (from Gurmukhi to English) is one thing, the cultural context of the translators are another.
So, there are many different wordings.
This is not the entirety of the Sunni-ai, just a few lines I wanted to pass along. See stanzas 8 through 11 in the Jap-Ji if you’d like to read them all.
By listening - are we made privy to the secret of your creation.
By listening - are the continents, nether regions, and higher realms made clear.
By listening - are we delivered from the kiss of Death.
By listening - is release from sorrow and sin obtained.
By listening - are we made capable of your praise.
By listening - are the secrets of yoga and the body gained.
By listening - is divine knowledge attained.
By listening - is release from sorrow and sin obtained
By listening - truthfulness, contentment and wisdom is born.
By listening - the ocean of virtue is fathomed.
By listening - sage like, spiritual teachers and emperors we become.
By listening - even the blind see the Way.
By listening - is release from sorrow and sin obtained.
-Guru Nanak, translation by Ravinder Singh Taneja
I know what you mean, it’s part of the meditation after the ‘overcoming pain’ kriya of the Dharma Warrior course. Return to stillness, and to Sunia. Empyting your mind allows you to pick up the sound of that stillness which cannot be described, only felt.
I am so very grateful to you for having introduced kundalini yoga and Jai Dev’s teachings to me, it changed my life for the better. Much love and blessings to you, Sister 💙🙏💫🤗🥰
